Bio
Coach Sam began playing volleyball at our own Jumpstart and Spikers program when he was 12 years old then graduated to playing on our boy’s national teams from age 14-18. While still playing Sam began our CIT (Coach in Training) program and shadowed our master coaches before assisting with our 14 National team in 2014. He has since coached our youth development program, beach volleyball program, summer camps and head coached our boys and girls travel teams. In 2016 Sam played at Binghamton University before transferring and is currently attending TCNJ studying Health & Exercise Science. He coached our 15 White National team last year which qualified for the GEVA Power League, advancing to the top flight by the end of the season and earning a spot in open regionals, being one of the top 16 teams in the region.
How would you describe your coaching style?
I expect hard work on the court from each player. I like to teach the athletes by having them play. The best teacher is experience.
What is your favorite characteristic of a player
I always look for the player with the best work ethic. A hard-working player can out class a talented player any day. I also look for positive energy both on and off the court.
Who are the people that have influenced you most as a coach?
My previous coaches have been my biggest role models. Taking bits and pieces of their coaching has led to my coaching style.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not in coaching mode?
If I’m not coaching, I like to play volleyball, eat, kayak, and go fishing.
What’s your favorite thing about volleyball?
I love how challenging it is. You get fractions of a second to react to the play and move, all the while trying to outsmart your opponent. It is a great test of mental acuity and physical ability. There is nothing quite like it.
